Egypt

I chose to create a historically Egyptian inspired garment. I found a fabric that I like while I was working in the costume shop. This sparked ideas to make a dress for my friend who will be in the fashion show. Having the fabric, theme and my muse, I was able to get my creative juices flowing and a thought popped in my head. The dress that Angelina Jolie had worn for the 84th Annual Academy Award engrossed me. I wanted an Egyptian silhouette version of that dress.

The fabric had beautiful patterns and details on it. I did not want to ruin its artistry by cutting it and having a seam showing.  Therefore, I draped an empire dress covering and resting on top of the breast. However, the fabric will not sit. Problems leads to solutions. I created a yolk that will act as a band that will allow structure and function. Drafting a rectangle pattern that is wide enough to wrap around my muse and long enough to cover her breast. All that is left is to finish the ends by serging the edges, get it stitched down and embroidered.

Finally, the only problems are closures and accessories. Originally, zippers were supposed to close the dress but my instructor advised a snap. Snaps it was. As for accessories, I have gold wires that will be transformed as a necklace, armlet and bracelet. Fabrics will be hanging off between the armlet and bracelet. Another fabric with the beautiful pattern will be showcased by hanging off the necklace. Characters in ballroom in an anime that I recently enjoy inspired this accessory look.
